The Grand Canyon

Standing on the rim overlooking the Grand Canyon and trying to describe what you feel is impossible. You just have to be there.

What a difference some 50 miles make. We left an arid stark landscape and in less than an hour find ourselves surrounded by beautiful greenery and the cool scent of pine. As we drove through Kaibab Forest the temperature dropped about 20 degrees. We were actually chilly!

Driving Arizona 67 on the way to the Grand Cayon North Rim entrance we drove through the Kaibab Plateau. There was a lot of smoke in the distance, which we later found out was caused by a controlled fire.

The controlled fire caused a lot of haze and smoke. The canyon was diffused by the hazy smoke and visibility was bad. We were told that it should be better by the next day.

You can really see the smoke haze lit up by the setting sun.

At dusk we took a walk along the path behind our cabin and almost ran directly into several deer. We couldn’t believe how close we came to them.
